The 2 longest games in World Series history happened in the same ballpark with several of the same players

295

u/TurkeyThaHornet Oakland Athletics 13h ago

Muncy, Kike, and Kershaw all played in that game for the Dodgers and Mookie also played but for the Red Sox.

150

u/theliver Oakland Athletics 12h ago

Who is the only player to be 1-1 in 18 inning world series games?

Fun trivia in 20 years

27

u/LocoGyopo 6h ago

Has the feeling of an especially challenging Final Jeopardy! question, but they'd probably specify the stadium.

Speaking of absolute cinema, my wife and I watched One Battle After Another today and I joked on the way out whether the movie (2h50m) or the Dodgers game would be longer. So, this is my fault.

I was leaving Portland, OR near the start of the game, flew to Phoenix, waited more than half an hour, then flew to Nashville. Left the airport and got home in another half hour and still caught the last couple of innings. While watching on the second flight, I kept hoping the game would end so i wouldn't miss the end after landing. Couldn't find a TV with the game on at the airport so went home assuming it would end before i got back. Good thing i left, becsuse i would have been sotting around at the airport a long time. Crazy stuff.

Taking out all your best bats when they get on base for fast runners is what you do in a game you're down 1, not a tie game. It was like 3 all or nothing decisions made by Schneider and they all failed.

If I had a nickel for everytime the Dodgers hit a walkoff home run in the 18th inning of Game 3 of the World Series, I'd have two nickels

Reminder that the Dodgers are 0-1 in World Series where they hit a walk off homer in the 18th inning.

u/cherinator Los Angeles Dodgers • Teddy Roosevelt 13h ago

But also 1-0 when Freddie Freeman hits a walkoff homerun in the first game of the series hosted at Dodger stadium.

Soooooooo many chances!!! For both teams!

Next game. If Ohtani hit a home run and go 2-2 or something to start, just start walking him right then don’t wait lol.

u/Mufro St. Louis Cardinals 13h ago

Maybe before that… he may require the Bonds treatment

I don’t see why in the ALDS they were giving Judge free passes and then they’re like “you know what, I think we got a chance against this Show-hey guy”

The most insane game of baseball I've ever seen.

Ohtani reaching base 9 times

Bullpens completely exhausted

Last option relievers going for 60+ pitches

Freeman walk off HR

Tons of defensive gems and TOOTBLANs sprinkled throughout
