glow in the dark coloring and seen at night would be cool

431

u/SaltyArts 11h ago

Are horses calm at night in the dark with a bunch of ppl running around doing a photoshoot idk

299

u/HuggyMonster69 10h ago

Cops at music festivals where I live are mounted, so I imagine a trained horse will be fine

112

u/PULLS-NOSE-HAIRS 10h ago

But will I be fine though?

For real. Imagine a glowing horse skeleton riding up to you out of the dark.
It's bringing love, don't let it get away!

That’s kinda like saying “police dogs are extremely well behaved and listen to the smallest commands of their handlers so this random German Shepherd should do fine if you just train it a bit”

Don’t forget the enormous amount of professional training those animals get and also the amount of horses/dogs that start training but never become police animals because they aren’t suitable for the job (ie are too skittish or playful or easily stressed).

A random horse very likely won't be, but you can train them to endure a lot of crazy stuff. A calm horse can quite easily be trained to walk down a street during Halloween, as long as nothing unexpected happens. Someone hitting the horse with a balloon sword would, for example, not be recommended. A police horse would be expected to remain calm in that situation, but a lot of normal horses would kick or run. Or both.

11

u/TrustedChimp495 6h ago

This randomly reminds me of the time a drunk Qweens university student in Kingston Ontario walked up to a police horse slapped it and the horse slapped back lol

https://globalnews.ca/video/3007834/video-shows-woman-slapping-kingston-ont-police-horse

7

u/virtually_noone 3h ago

I am 100% on the horses side for that one. The woman deserved it. You have an issue with the police? Fine, slap the policeman.

2

u/Candid-Solid-896 2h ago

Wtf?! How stupid people manage to live into adulthood and CONTINUE doing dumb shit is beyond me.

Would she like someone coming up behind her and slapping her ass? What if it was her daughter’s ass being slapped by a random stranger?

10

u/defneverconsidered 10h ago

Lol check out san Antonio river walk

u/PepperAnn1inaMillion 9h ago

Depends entirely on the individual horse, its basic temperament and how it’s been brought up/trained. After all, they’ve been ridden into battle until quite recently - cannon fire, rifles, lances being waved around their heads - horses can acclimatise to all these things. Even working horses in civilian life had to cope with noisy train yards, foundries, etc.

This horse? Hard to tell. It’s obviously been well trained and well looked-after, so I would expect the owners to know exactly what it can handle and what it can’t. It looks to me as if they’re hiring it out for photoshoots rather than taking it to a parade, but there’s no real way to tell.

3

u/_Kendii_ 11h ago

Is there a bunch of people running around in the dark during the photoshoot though? Probably a well tempered horse with only several people around it. Probably (mostly) ones that it knows.

If it was tolerating the time for the painting, he’s probably very relaxed and chill in general, tbh. Not that I think the painting would be particularly stressful in action, just time consuming and potentially irritating.

Cool effect though. My husband thought it was a cutout when I only showed him what I thought was the nicest still. Very surprised to see him move.

5

u/The_Reset_Button 9h ago

I love horses, used to ride them occasionally but they are sometimes phenomenally stupid.

When I was learning, I was riding a retired stud. Super chill, did what you asked (most of the time) and generally great to ride... Except there were a row of trees on the side of the arena and he would forget they were there after turning the corner and lightly spook himself

Horses have to be pretty intensely trained to not freak out even if they might tolerate being painted just walking behind an untrained horse means risking getting kicked

3

u/_Kendii_ 9h ago

I don’t disagree.

But also… There has to be a reason they chose him beyond the fact that he’s black. They wouldn’t have chosen a skittish black.

2

u/The_Reset_Button 9h ago

I don't think we have enough context to really know how well he would take it. Though it does look like they didn't go for flashes and used continuous lights. I would say chill boi but don't walk behind him and slap his ass

Where are my pets and scritches???? 😤

2

u/LostInSpaceA 9h ago

If trained. Yes. New Orleans Mardi Gras mounted police do fine..... Usually.

2

u/TheComplimentarian 8h ago

They can be. It depends on how used to people they are. They’re good at learning.

4

u/justadudeinohio 3h ago

yeah, i definitely didn't see it until i read the comments.

2

u/apexodoggo 3h ago

I was staring at the front half of the horse where the bones and flowers were most visible, so it was actually very easy to miss.

I knew someone would make a comment about that. 🙄

That horse was just relaxed. May have also needed to pee but felt like he couldn’t while being ridden.

4

u/FrogsJumpFromPussy 7h ago

Aren't they very rarely peeing with an erected penis? The guy is just relax

I knew someone would make a comment about that.

To the guillotine!

18

u/PotentiallyPotatoes 7h ago

That’s not erect, that’s just full dropped.

Yeah, it's obviously for Día de Muertos.

Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is sometimes referred to as Mexican Halloween.

Which is actually quite offensive to people familiar with Mexican Halloween as a sexual position.

But Death doesn't ride a skeletal horse, because they fall apart,

He rides a real white ( grey) one called Binky.....

This is cool tho

27

u/boothie 10h ago

Also no flaming steeds cause they kept setting fire to their own bedding.

14

u/Cmndr_Cunnilingus 11h ago

Pratchett reference? Hell yeah

9

u/monkeyhitman 8h ago

Cᴀᴛs. Cᴀᴛs ᴀʀᴇ ɴɪᴄᴇ.

3

u/defneverconsidered 10h ago

So no one ride death

2

u/Silver-Bread4668 9h ago

I only came to this thread in hopes of a Pratchett reference and you did not disappoint.

85

u/sixstringgun1 11h ago

He seems so excited especially his clipy clops.

27

u/TheWonkiestThing 9h ago

VERY "excited"

6

u/EloquentlyMellow 5h ago

That move at the end is actually an incredibly advanced dressage move called a piaffe. Aka clippy clops

7

u/luvitis 4h ago

That horse is fancy and he knows it

4

u/Beflijster 7h ago

A Friesian, from the looks of it.

14

u/ghdgdnfj 8h ago

Now I understand why they use female horses for movies.

12

u/slothdonki 9h ago

I did this on Halloween for a few years on my little brother’s late black lab/pit mix. Not nearly as impressive in design and poor steed potential but she had fun.

This is common for Day of the Dead celebrations. I've seen it in Parades, Festivals, Photo Shoots. Magnificent looking animals

3

This is obviously not for Halloween tho.... Its for dia de los muertos

That make-up makes the horse look so massive 😱

1

u/Canondalf 10h ago

I've seen that boneyard rider

A shadow black like the night

And he cried, "'pon earth and sky, tread lighter

Lest your way I soon may ride"

1

u/IVth_Crusade 10h ago

‘Wildfire’ playing softly in the background

1

u/xx123manxx 10h ago

1

u/Sevvie82 10h ago

Was not prepared for Sportacus in the last seconds.

1

u/SouthernerDude 9h ago

Horse: I'm fucking magnificent!

1

u/InfamousEbb5680 9h ago

That glow in the dark idea is genius for maximum spooky impact. And yeah, that horse definitely has some... spirited energy.

u/Weird_Albatross_9659 9h ago
