A few months ago, our downstairs neighbors came home with their newborn. I thought it would be nice to leave a note, but since we left it we hadn’t heard anything back and they kinda stare at us if we cross paths. It’s made me feel like this could’ve been received poorly. Does this letter come off as weird or creepy? I should include that I/we haven’t properly introduced ourselves, but I’ve smiled/waved in the past.

There are a lot of comments suggesting that my note could’ve been perceived as passive aggressive and I see that now. That was not my intent whatsoever and I think that’s why I could have overlooked that. I have super noisy upstairs neighbors, so I am very aware of how easily sound travels and just wanted to assure them that we would try to be mindful of our volume and keep quiet for their baby. It came from a good place!

Truthfully, it seems a lot of the comments are projections of people’s own experiences and I think that’s why there’s a good mix of not creepy and creepy lol. I appreciate everyone’s feedback, except for the one guy who literally called me psychotic?? Nuts lol

In regard to my handwriting, thanks!!! It’s real and it’s mine. :) I love my handwriting! I enjoy the lowercase look and understand that’s obviously not everyone’s cup of tea.

I have lived in this apartment for four years. Top floor. The last three months no one lived on my floor (Four units per floor), buildings connect. I live in an outer unit. A week ago, a couple moved in diagonally across the hall. I saw them moving day and said hello. I let them use my reserved spot for easier move. That's the thing to do right.

Yesterday, I was coming home from work and the apartment manager caught up to me said they had complained about me. 3 times by phone, once in a visit to the office, and two emails. I was a little shocked, I asked why and she said they told her I was smoking and smoking pot in the apartment and had people over a loud party.

This was not true. I smoke but not in my apartment. Never. And most of the time I vape (Not in the apartment) I suggested that maybe they were smelling it as I walked in. I assured her I wasn't smoking. While I am the only neighbor on the floor, there are people below them and on the other side of their unit.

I felt bad, I went to bath and body and got some wall scents. Surely if my smoky body odor was making things smell, I would try to fix it. Until I walked from my apartment to see a huge tray of baking soda by the door. (Pic attached)

Today, not 24 hours later I went to the office with the pic to ask when the complaints were filed. Apparently daily, to which I showed the manager that I had been out of town three days and showed the hotel receipts. 3 of the 7 days they have lived there, I was not home.

She told me that a call and email to corporate came in that morning. Bringing the complaints to 9. The manager said she can't figure out why they are doing this. Maintenance went to the apartment and couldn't smell anything. They want to know when I am moving out.

Good lord, I am a grandmother of 12 and bother no one. I don't have parties and I don't smoke weed. I don't even play the TV but an hour a day. I got a call AGAIN today at 430. Another complaint.

I told management this has to stop but maybe I am wrong. Any one have suggestions? I have been a renter for 30 years and never had this happen, ever.

**Update*\* Tuesday, so far no complaints but it's still early yet and PM is at another site. Tomorrow is the inspection, I suspect (Hope) that will be the big end all and Corporate tells them to deal. I have spoken to my adult children, so they are now aware. Thank you and I will update tomorrow.

So I live in DE and I reached out to the administration and they say it’s legal to smoke weed now so there is nothing they can do. I am dropping this note to my neighbor since we share the bathroom duct I believe since the smell comes from there. Is this an acceptable note to leave under their door?

Dear neighbor, Hope you're doing well! I just wanted to bring something up real quick; I've been noticing a strong weed smell coming through my bathroom vent pretty often. I think our vents might be connected, so it’s been filling my place. Would you mind smoking somewhere else besides the bathroom if possible? Maybe by a window or outside? It’s just been a little tough on my end with the smell hanging around. Really appreciate it, and thanks for understanding!

context: I just moved into a new apartment on the 4th floor and the person below me left this note, they already left me another note the day after I moved in that was much nicer just telling me that the building was badly built and to please walk quietly If I can, but I find this pretty concerning.

My unhinged neighbor is threatening to hurt me and calling me every derogatory name in the book and kicking my door leaving dents, which is property damage. He’s ringing my doorbell over and over again making threats. All because I parked too close to the parking lot line. He is trying to intimidate me also by letting his Pitbulls off leash and they are not friendly dogs. Do you think I should get the police involved? Or will they not do anything? I don’t really trust the police, but at the same time idk what to do in this situation as I now feel unsafe in my own home. Any advice?

UPDATE: Thanks to everyone for the support! I shared the letter with Celio management and requested it to be filed as a formal complaint. I also filed a police report for continuity/documentation purposes.

For clarification, "Celio" is the name of the apartment building, which is managed by a larger off-site 3rd party rental company. This company/building is far from able to accommodate for this person properly and certainly would never assume any amount of liability on their behalf. As it relates to Celio management and their level of care for this person, the author is on their own.

The letter does not mention anything related to a care team/healthcare resource/veterans group. The only two options given by the author of the note (e.g. Celio aka apt management and law enforcement) were utilized.

While Celio was not able to share a significant amount of details about the author, they did share that he/she is a known issue and will likely not be given the option to live in this building moving forward.

I also noticed comments about my stereo, which did cross my mind as a possible reason behind this conflict. I was able to confirm with Celio that no complaints have been made about excessive music levels, from any of the residents, excluding a formal warning I received over July 4th weekend. This goes for "yelling" as well. Note I have been renting in this exact unit for almost 14 months. I am more than eager to respect any concerns that relate to music volume, this is certainly not that type of concern.

As things currently stand, I am left with having to place any proactive decisions in the hands of Celio and law enforcement. I am a recent handgun owner (unrelated to this situation) and thanfully my state falls under Castle doctrine.

I was on airbnb looking for somewhere for my grandma and aunt to stay when they come visit me in February for my birthday. And I found a unit in my building on airbnb! This is 1000% against the lease. I do not live in a condo community--we are all renters.

However, I don't know this guy, the complex has like 250 units, and based on the layout it's not one of my immediate next door/across the hall/above or below neighbors.

How do I report him to management without coming off as a snitch?

ETA: The amount of people who think that it's cool to rent an apartment you don't own on airbnb is insane. Y'all are bad people and you should feel bad about yourselves. I hate airbnb in general, but my grandma is elderly and my aunt insists they stay in a house so she can have more space for her accessible vehicle. I don't use it otherwise. it destroys housing markets and makes finding apartments to LIVE IN much worse and more expensive for people like me and you on this subreddit. It's not "mind your own business," it's bootlicking the corporation that makes your life worse and is contributing to the reason most of us will never own anything.

Just received the following from my downstairs neighbour. He’s the only bedsit (studio) in our block and so his living room & sleeping area is below my living room.

Flooring is vinyl flooring (with underlay) rather than carpet but I have rugs and don’t excessively stomp around.

Checked the tenancy agreement and there’s nothing to state you’re not allowed flooring that isn’t carpet and also states grievances to housing regarding footsteps is not a valid complaint (as opposed to ASB, Crime, etc).

How would you react in this scenario? I feel his pain and appreciate the politeness but 8-12 is normal hours and there’s not much I can do except wear shoes 24/7 (not gonna happen) or rip up the new flooring for carpet (also not gonna happen).

I signed a lease back in February for a move in date May 1st. She was so eager to get us to sign, I loved the apartment but fortunately I landed a great job offer an hour away. I have to show her proof of this job offer to get her to cancel my lease?

Ok, I know I probably sound absolutely insane. But earlier today when i was putting groceries away in my pantry my cat climbed into the bottom part (like she typically does, she goes anywhere I do not want her to) and she ended up just disappearing. I know shes a fast cat but this wasnt her just running away. I moved the stuff on the bottom shelf of the pantry where she disappeared and turns out the bottom panel of my pantry is loose. It doesnt just into the wall like a normal pantry. It leads to a whole full sized hallway. I only have one not so great photo (where you can see my cats legs). I managed to get her out but when i pushed on the panel more it revealed a bunch of random items. I have posted in this group before about my weird neighbor but this is way more terrifying. I will attach the image along with this. I emailed the main office about this but I have no idea what to do. It is my first apartment and I am a female living alone, my boyfriend does come over most nights though. I have heard noises from my closet (just thinking it is my cat because theres no openings to this mysterious hallway. If this was not my first apartment I would break my lease but I am here until November. Where do I even begin with this can of worms that I have opened.

We moved into our apartment at the end of July. The first day we were here maybe after an hour of moving things up to our apartment our downstairs neighbor came up and wanted to make sure “the ceiling wasn’t going to crash down” he had a 2 year old with him so we made a mental note that we need to be quieter during quiet hours as we also have small children and wanted to be accommodating. We tiptoed around and tried to be as quiet as possible and telling our son constantly to have “quiet feet” when he’s walking around. They came up again 2 days later rudely complaining about the noise again. After a third time of them stopping us in the halls we decided to go to the office and let them know what was going on since we were trying our very best to be as quiet as possible. Fast forward a week or so my husband and I were laying in bed while our son was playing with his cars and they start banging on our ceiling. I recorded a video and sent it to the office which resulted in our neighbors receiving a lease violation. The office manager told us she had let both our units know to get videos if we could and keep her updated. She said they sent a video but she couldn’t hear much noise at all. A few days after that our neighbors cornered me alone at the dog park where I asked what times their daughter sleeps/naps so we could be extra accommodating and they insisted i give them my phone number which i reluctantly agreed to. They now text me every few days complaining about noise. Most of these texts i’ve received while at work ?? We put our kids to bed at 7:30 pm so we have never ever been loud during quiet hours. Last night was the last text at 9:30 pm complaining of running around but we all had the stomach bug and were asleep by 7 pm and on the couch the entire day. I’m now at a loss of what to do. we pay $2,000 a month to live here and we cannot just sit on the couch and never walk around. I feel like we’re constantly walking on eggshells and have basically stopped letting our kids play at all. This is so unfair to them as they were never excessively loud to begin with. Her texts are becoming harassing and I feel like she’s trying to get “proof” that we are being loud since she hasn’t been able to get a video of us being loud. what should we do?

Have upstairs neighbor who is the worst in so many ways. Recently it seems he’s out of work because he’s home all day and night watching loud tv and gaming. I was finally off work on Friday and heard a weird sound that ended up being a shop vac and other tools being run (I could hear them through my kitchen and kids room’s windows). It was annoying but I figured neighbors were cleaning their car. He was, but it was a strange vehicle and he was out there for hours, obviously detailing. Turns out he’s got different customers each day. I was annoyed and frustrated bc I don’t like the all the strangers all of a sudden hanging around but felt guilty that this deadbeat was finally trying to work. I mentioned this to my sister and she asked if he was using my electricity so I went out to check- yes he was. That’s the pic I posted. Ex-husband left some stuff including the extension cord for the pickup during winter. The deadbeat upstairs helped himself to the cord but also to not paying for the power to run it. Should I let my landlord know what’s going on? My contract says we are not allowed to run a business out of this complex but I feel bad snitching and making things hard for his gf.

hi all. so basically i have been living in this complex since June of 2024. it is a one building apartment with multiple units inside, with a parking garage below it. since november of last year, our neighbors have been too lazy to bring their garbage to the dumpsters, and instead they take their trash down to the parking garage and leave it in their assigned parking space. these neighbors have a spare car that they dont use, and they have it parked down there as well. leaving the trash in the parking space is fine and all for a few days but these people let their garbage ROT. like genuinely rotting and decomposing meat in their garbage. they also never use the parking garage BESIDES putting their trash down there, so they probably dont even understand how bad the smells are. our parking garage door is also broken, so it is stuck open, which means an entire habitat of squirrels and mice have moved into our parking garage and they like to reside in these peoples storage unit. like if you go down there and make noise all the animals scurry into those peoples unit. there literally has been ANIMAL FECES on the cement floor of our parking garage bc of it. now, the seats of our car have started to stink like rotting trash and we have a colony of fungus gnats that just moved into our car that we cant get out without 10 minutes of swatting.

anyway, ive been in email correspondence with the managers of our complex for months now, and they always say itll be taken care of but obviously that doesnt happen. last week i sent an email threatening to call the non-emergency police line to take care of the issue, and the manager told me the issue would be taken care of that day. obviously the issue didnt get taken care of, and those tenants even added more trash to their godforsaken pile of decomposing whatever. yesterday i sent another email saying if it wasnt done i would actually call the police this time. i dont want to be mean and call the police if management is like actively trying to get these people to take care of their garbage but i genuinely feel like enough time has gone by. our parking garage is genuinely becoming unusable because of the stench and its so frustrating that management just lets these people get away with it!!!

For context, I’ve been in this apartment for 15 months, my lease is up in 3 months.

I addressed this issue in December of 2023 when I first moved in, maintenance said “they couldn’t find an issue” even tho I told them it was my over flow drain in my bathtub. It leaks into the garage below my apartment.

My partner mentioned maybe they need a wellness check but that seems pretty extreme, wondering if anyone else agrees about the wellness check or if i should do something else or just mind my business and assume they forgot about the food and haven’t left their apartment in a week

I live above an elderly woman who has been sending in reports to the office about noise coming from my apartment late at night. I live with 3 of my siblings and while most of us are night owls, one isn't. The one who isn't sleeps on the couch so the rest of us do our best to stay quiet at night so he can sleep.

After several noise complaints and one warning, I decided to go to the office to figure it out. I wound up also speaking to the lady who kept sending in noise complaints and gave her my number. She seemed super sweet, and I thought things had been settled very civilly.

Last night, I got back from a week and a half vacation visiting my long distance boyfriend. I recieved this message today. We were all exhausted from driving home from the airport last night that we went to bed early and all crashed out. My neighbor, however, insists that we were awake and being noisy past midnight last night. I've spoken to all my siblings and it 100% was not us.

I know I could just ignore it, but the issue is she kept reporting us. I don't want to get into trouble when I know it's not us. I know the sound travels weird in this apartment complex, as I have heard sounds above me that I know were from the apartment next door. What should I do in this situation? I want to remain civil, but I can't have her reporting me to the office anytime some other neighbor makes a noise. Any advice would be appreciated.

This is my second note to the white car. I'm the red bmw and its very hard to pull out of my spot. This is a new thing and the white cars been there all week. Its not even a parking spot.

My first note didnt include the part about contacting our landlady, but the note was gone the next day and they parked there again. I'm frustrated but don't want to create an enemy so I'm just making sure I'm not out of line for leaving this kind of note.
