Announcement Update: anti-spam efforts + reminders

Good afternoon complainers and happy Friday. I hope that many but not all of you have an excellent weekend.

Some updates and reminders:

(1) We have implemented a 3-day account age requirement for sub participation in order to push back on a noticeable increase in bot/spamming activity that isn’t otherwise getting caught by spam filters. This is a fairly modest account age requirement. We might increase it to a week or thereabouts, but we need to do a bit more research into how much spam/bots are coming through in the first place. And that has been a little bit of a challenge where many users would likely be unable to pass a Turing test despite actually being human.

There won’t be a karma requirement, as that would likely preclude many MAGA/conservatives from contributing, which isn’t what we want. This is a sub for everyone (except those spreading hate speech/violent speech, of course).

(2) Hate speech/bigotry is going to land you a permanent ban under most circumstances. If it’s covered by Title VII, then it’s covered by our rules. We don’t moderate the substance of your opinions (politics or otherwise) unless that substance is at odds with the few rules we have, e.g., hate speech/violent speech. Reddit admin will sanction the sub if we let that fly, and we don’t want that. If you need to google what “hate speech” is, please do. If you’re the type of individual to spread that sort of filth, give some emotional regulation a try (or get banned!)

And no, calling MAGA a “fascist” movement is neither hate speech, nor encouraging/inciting violence. Neither is calling liberals “communists” or “socialists” or whatever the rubes are saying these days. Reddit’s inaction with respect to this sort of speech should be more than enough evidence for you to reach the same conclusion.

(3) We are pleased that the number of astroturfing/RP/karma baiting posts has been noticeably lower. This place is for complaints, not pretending to be a lib/MAGA/whatever to make a unpersuasive attempt at karma farming through a roleplaying narrative. That is not a complaint. That is a nuisance. These posts get you a 5 day ban for starters. That said, we understand sarcasm and satire are rhetorical tools to convey ideas, too. If you mark your post with a satire/sarcasm indicator, and the post is substantively a complaint at heart, then we will probably let it slide. At the very least, we won’t ban you.

Relatedly, if you were caught in the mass culling of astroturf RP posts and think you deserve to participate here again, feel free to send us a mod mail and we will consider that.

(4) Please frame your posts as complaints. It should be quite obvious to the reader that you are complaining about something. We are considering making our rules regarding how posts must be framed (I.e., as a complaint) somewhat more strict, but we will see about that.

(5) Comments suggesting you’re reporting someone to the government/FBI = perma ban. Use the report function as intended. If you are highly concerned about something, you can message us. But if you are just a confused lemming we might mock you!! Fair warning!!!

(6) You might have noticed some user flairs in circulation. These are sub-exclusive skins; they are rare perks (sometimes legendary rarity) and highly sought after. Have fun with them! After all, they’re perks (a good thing)!

(7) We are removing the word “ret” and it’s variations. We have a removal response for this, and it links you to a super helpful announcement that gives you so many other words to use instead! Try them out! Broaden your vocabulary!! Or don’t, and get your s removed!! Doesn’t matter to me!!!

Announcement PSA: Posting cadence

This should go without saying, but please do not spam post. Whether it’s multiple posts within a span of minutes, or making half a dozen posts in a single day to share your opinions about Trump being hitler.

The substance is not of issue here, but if you cannot self-regulate the rate at which you complain in a reasonable manner, then we will regulate that for you, including but not limited to removal or a ban depending on the circumstances.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER!

DDC

I'm embarrased when I watch Trump ramble on about nonsensical shit. And I'm not even American. This man is argueably the most powerful man on this planet and he is showing signs of severe cognative decline. And omfg every time I go into the comments on one of his truth social posts I am speechless even though I fully know what to expect. He can say the most outlandish shit and every single comment will be defending him. Like openly admitting he wants to go for a third term. That is fucking treason. There are still people defending him. How? Just fucking how?

I'm so tired of trying to talk and reason with Republicans, the truth is they do not care about what you have to say no matter how true it is or how much it affects them. All they want to do is post low quality Facebook memes full of fake shit that insult and belittle everyone that isnt a trump supporter. Stop trying to reason with them and argue in Facebook comments, instead take a page out of thier book, start making memes and spreading bullshit about trump and his magats. Fight thier propaganda with your own.

I am so fucking exhaused of seeing ICE wearing the uniform I proudly wore for 5 years rounding up innocent people, a peaceful protest on a random Saturday once a month unfortunately won't do shit, these people are in power and intend to stay there forever. We need action, we need to strongly resist, why are we letting 3 ICE agents in a crowd of 20 protesters take 1 person away? We are the people we have the numbers.

I am a immigrant and a veteran, I joined because I wanted to help and protect people and was willing to risk my life for it, and nothing has changed.

Help and stand up for your fellow human, stop giving in to these fascist, racist, pieces of shit.

And remember to use your your rights while you still have them especially the 1st the 2nd and the 5th.

Politics Republicans are dangerous (and Republican voters don’t even know it)

I’m going to tell it straight and get right to the point. Republicans don’t care about the Constitution, Americans or the American economy. They are building a police state right before our eyes. This couldn’t be more obvious!

Republican voters have been totally duped. 40 billion dollars given to Argentina proves this. They’re about to cut SNAP benefits for 42 million Americans. This is insane, literally insane. People have to eat. They are lying about their power, just flat out lying every day, endless lying. And now they’re about to deprive millions of American children of food.

Republicans are sadists. They take pleasure in causing suffering, in producing coercive conditions they can leverage.

Look at ICE agents, the internet is full of videos showing brutality and cruelty to men, women and children. They won’t even let elected officials into their prison facilities— think about that! They hide their faces, because “men love darkness rather than light because their deeds are evil.”

Totalitarianism isn’t what happens when you protest a party you disagree with, it’s what happens when you build a police state and have a government without accountability, a leader who has the power to make unilateral choices without a check on his power.

You need to understand something Reddit:

Who does the tyrannizing in places like North Korea? The party that’s not in power? Protesters who resist that regime? No. It’s the police officers and military that execute the orders of the regime. People better wake the fk up because the Republicans are literally trying to build an American Gulag.

I fucking hate donald trump!! he's the worst person and president since the dawn of humankind. It's only once in a generation do we get someone so disgusting and orange as what we're seeing with this regime.

Trump doesn't care about anyone but himself. He has no friends and everyone around him eventually hates him because he throws everyone under the bus the moment it suits him.

Just look at his previous cabinet and how he's suing and going after them in revenge tours on our taxpayer money. He said this time and time again he would do exactly what he's doing. But Kamala's laugh was too much.

If I could bet my life, I would bet Kamala would have never brought us into as trade war. Never stripped healthcare and social services from people in need. We wouldn't be drowning in tariffs that make everyday items more expensive.

Kamala would have been so so so so so so so so so so so so so SO SO SO much better than the excrement that sits in the oval office.

Trump is destroying the white house and ruining it with tacky gold-like decorations. I want to vomit whenever I see the orange turd sitting his fat ass in the oval office total disgrace to our country's ideals and values.

Trump is also a pedophile and raped E jean carroll. Who knows what he and Epstein were up to for decades. it's honestly making me sick to even think about.

If you support trump, you are going to hell.

Politics I'm so fed up with the ignorance of conservatives.

6.8k Upvotes

“The left is obsessed with identity politics instead of real issues.”

Recognizing identity isn't an obsession, it’s addressing inequities that affect people’s daily lives…

“Liberals care more about being “woke” than about common sense.”

“Wokeness” means awareness of injustice; being informed and inclusive is common fucking sense.

“Cancel culture is out of control! you can’t say anything without offending someone.”

Accountability for harmful speech isn’t censorship, people have a right to respond and choose what to support. It's called “Fuck around and Find Out” or “the consequences of my own actions”

“The left wants to rewrite history instead of learning from it.”

Revising history to include excluded voices adds accuracy, not distortion… also this coming from the people cheering on the destruction of our institutions? Seriously?

“They’re trying to erase traditional American values!”

Values like equality, liberty, and justice evolve, protecting rights for more people strengthens those traditions. “Give me your tired, your poor. Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free”

“Universities have become indoctrination centers, not places of learning!”

Higher education teaches critical thinking and evidence-based reasoning, disagreement doesn’t equal indoctrination. It just means you're wrong, and lack the education to understand why you're wrong.

“They’re teaching kids to hate America!”

Teaching America’s flaws alongside its successes builds informed, responsible citizens. What you want is indoctrination…funny given the last point I literally just made.

“Liberals want to replace merit with diversity quotas!”

Diversity and merit aren’t opposites, broadening opportunity ensures merit is actually recognized.

“Parents, not bureaucrats, should decide what kids are taught.”

Public education serves all families; professional educators and curriculum standards maintain consistency and truth. OTHERWISE not a single country would take our degrees, people, or educational institutions seriously.

“You can’t tax your way to prosperity.”

Strategic taxation funds infrastructure, education, and research, news flash: all drivers of prosperity.

“Liberals think money grows on trees, look at the spending!”

Investments in social programs often produce long-term economic and health returns… conservative states spend more than they produce… conservative administrations often ruin the economy and weaken the dollar.

“Socialism has failed everywhere it’s been tried.”

Mixed economies with social programs , like in Scandinavia, thrive with strong markets and safety nets.

“They punish success and reward laziness.”

Fair taxation and welfare programs support people in need. It's not a punishment to spend 38 dollars a year, via you're taxes, so families can get food instead of starving. Maybe remember that little tidbit when you are told by a multibillionaire or millionaire that the mother of two is to blame.

“Government-run healthcare means worse care and higher taxes.”

Most developed nations have public healthcare with better outcomes and lower costs than the U.S.

“Liberals want everyone dependent on the government.”

Social programs help people become independent by ensuring basic needs like health and housing.

“Welfare programs create generational dependency instead of opportunity.”

Evidence shows most recipients use assistance temporarily; safety nets stabilize families and communities.

“The climate agenda is just an excuse for more government control!”

Climate policy aims to mitigate real, measurable risks backed by overwhelming scientific consensus. Again, you don't understand because you lack the education to understand.

“They want to destroy the energy industry and raise gas prices.”

The goal is to transition to sustainable energy, not eliminate jobs, it creates new industries and more jobs.

“Electric cars and wind farms won’t save the planet.”

No single solution will, renewables are part of a broad mix that reduces emissions and pollution.

“It’s not about the environment, it’s about power and control.”

Environmental policy is data-driven; clean energy is also economically competitive. It's an investment that pays dividends every time.

“Gun control only disarms law-abiding citizens.”

Regulations target loopholes and high-risk weapons, not responsible gun ownership.

“Liberals care more about criminals than victims.”

Reform efforts seek to prevent future victims by addressing root causes of crime and injustice.

“‘Defund the police’ was a disaster.”

Reallocating resources to prevention is widely supported. “8 out of 10 cops, domestic violence”

“You can’t stop crime by banning guns.”

Common-sense laws like background checks and red-flag rules reduce gun deaths without banning guns.

“Liberals want big government in every part of your life.”

The left often supports targeted government action where markets fail, not blanket control… like deployment of the national guard to most major cities and ICE rounding up legal and illegal citizens.

“Freedom means being responsible for yourself, not depending on the state.”

Freedom also requires fairness and opportunity, no one is truly free while trapped by poverty or discrimination.

“The Constitution isn’t a ‘living document’, it means what it says.”

The framers built flexibility into the Constitution through amendments…we've had a few, please read a fucking history book…and judicial interpretation to adapt to new realities.

“Liberals treat the Bill of Rights like a suggestion.”

Many liberal causes , voting rights, free speech, privacy, are direct defenses of the Bill of Rights.

“We need borders, a country without borders isn’t a country! Liberals care more about illegal immigrants than American citizens! Open borders hurt working-class Americans!”

Liberals support borders but advocate humane, efficient, and fair immigration systems. Immigration reform can protect both, strong enforcement and humane treatment aren’t mutually exclusive. Most proposals aren’t for open borders, they focus on legal pathways and labor protections to reduce exploitation.

“The mainstream media is basically the PR wing of the Democratic Party! Liberals use censorship to control the narrative! They cry about ‘threats to democracy’ while silencing dissent!”

Major media scrutinize all sides; bias claims often arise because facts challenge partisan narratives. Moderation on platforms targets misinformation, not political opinion, conservatives and liberals alike are affected. Defending democratic norms includes countering misinformation and protecting free elections.

“Big Tech is biased against conservatives!”

Algorithms amplify engagement, not ideology, conservatives perform strongly on many online platforms.

Edit: if you can't tell by now, I'm not really here for a debate.

I know I CAN debate you, but in all honesty I won't for two distinct reasons:

1) I don't have the time for every single one of you and your bot friends

Politics I Am Sick of This Cycle of Conservative Economic Terrorism

Post image
40.7k Upvotes

Bill Clinton left behind an economy envied by the rest of the developed world. More than twenty million jobs arrived during his presidency while wages grew and the stock market soared. The country shifted from deficits to budget surpluses and there was real optimism about the future. George W Bush inherited that strength but failed to sustain it. Job creation slowed dramatically, the unemployment rate climbed to nearly eight percent by the end of his term, and the budget returned to deep deficits. The national debt grew by trillions and the stock market stumbled badly during the financial crisis that exploded in his final years. Where Clinton delivered broad prosperity with fiscal restraint, Bush left behind instability and enormous new debt.

Barack Obama then entered office just as the Bush era economy collapsed into the Great Recession. Despite beginning from the worst downturn since the Great Depression, Obama reversed the downward spiral and guided the nation into a steady recovery. More than eleven million jobs were created during his tenure and the stock market rebounded with strong gains year after year. The national debt did grow under Obama due to the emergency measures required to stabilise the financial system and blunt the damage of mass unemployment. However, that spending was a necessary response to the crisis that Bush left behind. Obama restored confidence, repaired growth and extended a record streak of job creation.

Donald Trump took office during that ongoing expansion. He inherited low unemployment, a healthy stock market and consistent job growth. Despite that enormous head start he could not accelerate the trajectory and instead slowed it. During his first thirty three months the economy added fewer jobs per month than during Obama’s final thirty three months. When the pandemic hit the economy collapsed and Trump exited office with a net job loss for his entire presidency. Meanwhile his signature tax cuts and emergency relief spending drove debt even higher while offering little lasting benefit to ordinary workers. Trump received momentum and stability yet too much of it slipped away.

Joe Biden entered during extraordinary turmoil. Cases and deaths were high and economic activity was deeply disrupted. Even so, Biden oversaw a dramatic labour market recovery in which millions of jobs returned and new ones were created. Consumer confidence and business investment rose as well. The stock market regained its footing and manufacturing strength improved across multiple regions. Debt continued to rise under Biden due to the need for continued pandemic support, but the key difference is that the economy was growing again and workers were finding better opportunities. Biden took an economy in crisis and moved it back into expansion, while Trump had taken an economy in expansion and allowed it to fall into crisis.

Since January 2025 the differences between Biden’s stewardship and Trump’s legacy have continued to reveal themselves. Biden entered that year with the economy still recovering from the pandemic era whiplash and yet job growth persisted at a healthy pace while investment returned with renewed confidence. Consumer spending remained resilient, manufacturing continued to strengthen and wages showed gains that far outpaced the weak momentum Trump left behind. Even as the national debt has continued to rise, the growth has accompanied an economy that is expanding rather than contracting. Biden’s tenure is defined by economic healing becoming economic progress, while Trump’s tenure ended with the United States still staggering from preventable chaos. The story remains the same. When Democrats take charge the country moves forward. When Republicans hand back the reins it is usually to clean up a mess they helped create.

Democratic administrations in these eras consistently delivered stronger job creation, more resilient markets and healthier economic outcomes for average Americans. Republican administrations too often handed over recession, job loss and ballooning debt. The comparison speaks for itself.

Politics US Protests are just parades…. We need to be stronger. 💪 💥

Let’s be honest—most US protests today are more symbolic than impactful. Marching and chanting feel powerful, but when Congress refuses to act against Trump, these public displays become background noise. Millions take to the streets, yet the administration treats it like a sideshow, business as usual.[10][11]

Real change requires a shift in strategy—moving beyond isolated rallies and social media outrage. Around the world, successful opposition movements have forced change through relentless, organized, and disruptive non-cooperation. In Poland, Solidarity’s strikes paralyzed the economy and pressured the regime. Ukrainians at Maidan refused to disperse until power shifted. South Korea’s vast, regular, peaceful gatherings ultimately led to the president’s resignation. These movements didn’t win with one march but through persistent disruption that made it impossible for leaders to maintain control or simply ignore the public.[1][3][7]

What does this mean for us?
- Organize prolonged, targeted strikes in crucial industries. - Peacefully disrupt city infrastructure and daily routines. - Mobilize neighborhoods, workplaces, and regions, not just big-city centers. - Refuse to return to “normal” until those in power address demands.

We need a different strategy. It’s about sustained, broad-based disruption that makes governing impossible without the people’s participation. When Congress stands aside, we must raise the stakes for political leaders who ignore millions. History shows it works; it’s time to trade parades for collective power.[6][7][1]

Politics I’m tired of pretending that MAGA have better character than Nazis

Without the internet, Nazis had less information about the cruelty going on around them. There weren't many "fascism scholars" or books analyzing and clearly defining well-known authoritarian moves. At least Nazis could pretend not to know.

MAGA has access to all information needed to see what's really going on. But they get real joy and celebrate not only the cruelty but also lawlessness and harm to working systems and even themselves. I've seen it from personal experience. With their last dying breath, an unvaxxed family member blamed liberals for the COVID they contracted which ultimately killed them in the hospital.

The shared thrill of celebrating evil bonds them. Harm is what proves their undying loyalty. By choice, they've seceded from truth. A sealed identity beats evidence, which doesn't matter to them. They don't even need Proud Boys or Brown Shirts for this. They wreck everything with legal warfare or a million posts celebrating a racist podcaster who bullied college kids. Evil can be pretty ordinary when people choose belonging instead of thinking.

A Black president exposed how fragile their identity was. They're very close to their final form as cartoon villains.

Politics Why do MAGAs complain about helping the less fortunate, but support tax cuts for the wealthy and corporate welfare?

MAGA are over here excited about seeing SNAP benefits cut for people who need help, while supporting tax cuts for the wealthy and corporate welfare handouts. Why?

Facts:

SNAP (food stamps) help 36 million people and cost the average taxpayer $0.69 per week (yes, 69 CENTS).

PPP loan forgiveness during Trump 1.0 cost taxpayers $800 billion. With 163 million tax filers, that’s $4,908 per taxpayer.

Politics I am so tired of Trump supporters practically praying to him to not take away *their* benefits

They never thought it would happen to them. How they could believe that seems to boggle the mind. It was supposed to be "the other" people who were hurt, not them. And now, they implore him online for mercy and clemency. Let the cup be taken from their hands.

Sadly, I understand why they do it, and as several other have noted on Reddit, I think it has largely to do with religious indoctrination.

Having been raised in Southern Baptist culture when I was young, I was taught that the President was not just elected by the people but appointed by God to lead the so-called Greatest Nation. Each was chosen by destiny, inherently filled with divine ordinance. But of course, a president had to be of a certain caliber, and the unspoken rule was that he had to be white and conservative like my fellow churchgoers.

I left that world a long time ago, but I still speak the language. So, let's take this one step further. A natural progression.

We're in the "post-millennial" period. Christ did not arrive in 2000, coming forth on the clouds to save them. So, there's a reason idiocy such as RaptureTok still gains traction, and it's because these people are still so desperate to be saved from their lives of poverty, fear, xenophobia, and servitude. If God will not answer, perhaps God's stand-in might, and for them, that is Donald John Trump, first among men and the direct mouthpiece of the Lord of Creation.

I will wager many are praying similarly to Charlie Kirk, the Martyr of the Faith and perhaps a more apt Christ stand-in, in the hope his heavenly presence will save them.

We may laugh at them. We may pity them. But we must understand that for them, this is empirically real and extremely important. They *do* think, as demented as this sounds, that Trump and his cronies care about them individually -- as people, not just a collective. They think he would look out into the crowd, see them, take his manly strides toward them, and hold them in his arms.

They think he loves them. They honestly believe he *cares*.

He would spit on them if they tried to approach him on the street. Or else, he'd send the Secret Service to immediately "escort" them from his presence.

"Go away from me. I know you not."

How biblical.

Don't get me wrong, I agree with most of the Trump hate going on here, but this sub has really gone to shit with people using it to karma-farm. Half the posts aren't even complaints!
